Six Greenpeace activists have been arrested after climbing London's Shard, the tallest building in Western Europe.
The women evaded security guards just before dawn on Thursday and took more than 15 hours to climb to the top of the 72-storey, 310-metre tall glass-fronted building. They were then arrested by police officers who were waiting on the roof. The women, one of whom was wearing a camera streaming a live video feed, had unfurled a green flag bearing the words "Save the Arctic" in protest against plans for Arctic oil drilling by Royal Dutch Shell.Police said they had arrested the group on suspicion of aggravated trespass.Greenpeace named the climbers as "Sabine, Sandra, Victo, Ali, Wiola and Liesbeth" and said they were "free climbing" without assistance but would attach safety ropes as they progressed.
